A collection of meditative journeys through the former Yugoslavia, loosely following the footsteps of travel writer Rebecca West. Consisting of a series of fixed-frame tableaux, the films present seemingly random glimpses of everyday life that at times border on magic realism and the absurd. Removed from the narrow Balkanist gazes and often-told narratives of ancient ethnic hatreds associated with political commentary on the region, the lived landscapes of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the intertwined stories of a hypnotist and a swimmer are central in Frame One.
